About our School
haahuupayak School is a Category 1 BC Independent School situated within the traditional territory of the Tseshaht First Nation. The school was founded in 1976 and moved to its current facilities in 1998. Visitors to our school are immediately struck by the magnificent architectural qualities of the building.

The haahuupayak teaching staff are committed to delivering and integrating a strong nuuchahnulth culture and language program within the parameters of the prescribed Learning Outcomes of the BC Ministry of Education. The school recognizes the importance of the students internalizing a strong cultural identity before entering local Middle and High Schools. The school campus includes a separate Infant-Toddler program and Preschool, a Full Day Kindergarten program, and Grades 1 through 6. Transportation is available to all students.
The school is funded by both the Federal and Provincial Governments and as a result no tuition is charged. haahuupayak School enrolls children from all communities; everyone is welcome here!
